The Scene Magazine Interviews: Artcha

The Scene Magazine caught up with Artcha 26, in a trendy bar in North London to learn more about the talented artist who has been in the music scene for almost a decade.
He is now signed with Schizofreniks, and his debut album, ‘Therapy Sessions’ is ready for your listening pleasure.

1. For those who don’t really know who you are, how would you describe yourself, and your style of music?

My music is a variation of hip-hop and other genres. I want to branch out from the whole hip-hop stereotype. If you listen to my album you will hear an eclectic mix of music.

2. Who produces your beats?

I began by producing my own beats, but as time when on, I wanted to concentrate more on being an artist. While making my album I had the honour of being able to select the producers that I wanted to work with.

3. So you’ve been in the industry for nearly 10 years, how have you grown and developed as an artist?

The transition has been long and hard. I’ve practiced, learned my craft, and developed my character. I’ve become more confident in my writing and performing. I used to be in the ‘One Crew,’ that had artists such as Sway, and various others that are coning out now. That experience helped to shape me as an individual. We all met in school, but we split up in 2002, to concentrate on our own thing.

4. Do you think that there is enough support in the UK music scene?

In a nutshell no. The investors out here are not really that keen, or confident in UK music. I don’t think that artists have been given the chance to shine.

5. If you weren’t in this industry, what do you think you would be doing?

I love music as a general art form, for me it’s natural. I grew up with music such as soul and revival. I’ve always wanted to perform.

6. What do you think makes you unique, and stand out from other artists?

My honesty, and my music. I’m not trying to be somebody that I’m not. I’m just being real. My album reflects my life in terms of hardship, loses and disappointments.

7. Can you tell me a bit about your album ‘Therapy Sessions’?

It’s my debut album, which has been a long time coming. It came about when I met Schizofreniks record label. It is available to download now, and will be available in the shops from April. There’s a track entitled ‘Brother’ which is one of my favourites. It’s about family and friends. ‘Right Here’ is another one of my favourite tracks. It’s a funky house track, and it ends the album on a high.

8. What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Definitely the album, and my first video, which is quite cinematic. I’m also involved in the tour, ‘Love Music Hate Racism.’ Also another achievement was being one of the artists chosen for the ‘BET Global Hip-Hop search.’ It was a big honour.

9. So where do you see yourself going in the next 10 years?

I won't be rapping forever, but I’ve definitely got a passion for music. After a couple more albums, I will probably focus on production. I want to be a pioneer for music.

10. What can we look forward to in the near future?

More singles, and a video for ‘Brother’ and ‘Right Here.’ Also I will be touring around the country.

11. Do you have a message for your supporters?

Big up everyone that’s supporting me.

The Scene wishes Artcha every success in the future.
