The Scene Magazine Interviews: Bonita

She is working with a top UK producer Odouble who's made beats for various artists in the UK, and she is working with East London rapper Nemisis featuring on many songs for his Album, and Mixtapes 'Grey City' and 'Rhymewatch UK'.
She had a music scholorship at school for being the youngest most talented musician achieving high grades at such a young age, then went on to study at college for a Diploma and then Higher Diploma in Music. Since Moving to London she has found her voice and captured its uniqueness.


RDS caught up with Bonita to see whats happening with her music and to get a little info on her album!

1. Whats been happening with you?

Im currently signed to an independent label based in East London called 'Stonecold Recordings'. Im working on my album hoping to release it next year. Ive also featured on a few mixtapes 'Rhymewatch UK' which features other artists on Stonecold, 'Grey City' solo mixtape by Nemisis, and Crey Mey's new mixtape.

2. How did you get into music?

Ive been studying music from a young age. I was trained classically at school receiving high grades in different insruments such as violin piano flute and singing. I then went on to do a diploma and higher diploma at college in popular music where i mostly focused on singing. Thats where i met Nemisis the founder of the label Im on who introduced me to O Double my producer. Since leaving college i've found my style and my voice has been compared to the likes of Alliyah and Ashanti

3. What are we going to expect from solo album "Behind These Eyes"?

Its going to be a mixture of RnB and HipHop beats. From slow love songs to up beat hip hop tracks.

4. What collaborations are we going to see on your album?

Ill be collaborating mostly with people off the same label as me Nemisis and O-Double will feature on some of my tracks. Im also looking to work with other producers and rappers that have contacted me but I wont name them till its set in stone.

5. What do you think of the urban music scene right now?

The UK Urban scene is growing all the time. There are so many good underground artists not getting enough exposure though so we just have to keep grinding and moving this UK thing forward. Next year expect to see big things coming from Stonecold.

6. Are there any artists out there who you really admire?

I admire anyone with talent thats putting there music out there

7. What has been your greatest achievement?

I suppose my greatest achievement was when my song got played on Radio for the first time G child played it on Kiss FM its called 'Hate You'. Since then i set up my myspace www.myspace.com/ukbonita and ive been getting nuff support and people are really feeling my style so its all good at the moment.

8. Who would you like to work with?

Im always up for working with different producers, rappers and singers. If I could choose someone to do a duet with it would definitely be Lemar and id also like to work with Sway because i like both of their styles.

9. What are you looking forward to next?

Im looking forward to releasing my album, getting more airplay,interviews,playing out more and meeting more people in the music industry so i can get my name out there.

10. What are we going to be seeing from you in the future?

Im just gonna keep working hard and make music that people want to hear so hopefully in the future, i'll be where I wanna be.
